DUTCH-ITALIAN VIOLIN VIRTUOSO CECILIA BERNARDINI JOINS ADLF AS BEETHOVEN AND HUMMEL SQUARE OFF

To close our season we are welcoming acclaimed Dutch-Italian violinist Cecilia Bernardini for an evening of exquisite 19th century masterworks performed on period instruments.  Cecilia Bernardini, the daughter of early music royalty, is widely considered to be one of the most versatile violinists of her generation, performing on both modern and historical violins.  Bernardini is the leader of Scotland’s Dunedin Consort, has been a soloist and guest director with Tafelmusik and Arion as well as having given the world premiere of Philip Glass’ Double Concerto.

She is joined by Mika Putterman, Susie Napper and Gili Loftus in a programme of music by Beethoven and Hummel; including excerpts of Hummel’s own chamber arrangements of Beethoven’s Symphonies 1, 5 and 7.

“There are so many things to marvel at: her husky, shapely tone, her earthy way with rhythm, how she tugs playfully the top of phrases, her ability to dart in and out of ensemble textures and to make the whole thing so joyously convivial.“ — The Guardian
